Additional Information Purpose

Work on a small dynamic team to design, develop and maintain software applications for the processing of measurement data relating to GNSS/GPS, survey, and geodesy for the Department of Defense.

Essential Functions

Develop algorithms and processing methodologies for the collection, transfer, data processing, and visualization of measurement data. Implement designs in C++ and Python in a collaborative environment. Work closely with team members to define interfaces between program components. Document implementations thoroughly and clearly. Define, implement, and execute test cases for program functions. Contribute to the development of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and user documentation. Provide guidance and assistance to student employees. Document progress and completion of work. Participate in project reviews and technical interface meetings to present software designs and test results to sponsors and other external organizations. Present and publish work in trade conferences. Provide technical assistance to users. Document and address bug reports. Further develop knowledge of C++, Python, software development principles, geodetic survey methods and estimation theory.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics or other applied science and three years of experience in C++ software development or an advanced degree and at least one year of experience in C++ software development. Experience in the statistical characterization of data sets. US Citizen: Subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgment, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintaining a professional demeanor, working as a team member without daily supervision, effectively communicating with diverse groups of clients, working under pressure, accepting supervision and demonstrating regular/punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with: Python, developing C++ or Python software applications in math, science or engineering domains, performing numerical analyses and least squares estimation, Qt application framework, developing on Linux, Windows, and OS X platforms, terminal-based environments including bash, software configuration management processes (e.g. Subversion, Git) and basic networking concepts, standard protocols and tools including: ssh, X Windows.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
