Detailed Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Religious Life, the Jewish Student Life Coordinator will provide leadership and support for RIT's Jewish students by developing programs rooted in Jewish culture and identity. This individual will work within the Center for Religious Life utilizing its resources and collegial relationships in campus outreach while benefiting from the support of a Jewish Student Life Advisory Board. This is a ten month, part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) which will include some evening and weekend hours depending on programmatic needs.

RIT Hillel is affiliated with Hillel International. Hillel International enriches the lives of Jewish students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world, and envisions a world where every student is inspired to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning and Israel.

This is a temporarily funded position for the academic year 2016-2017. Continuation of the position is subject to annual funding availability.

This position will entail:
 

  • Working with RIT Hillel Student Board and other Jewish representatives to offer programs, events, and opportunities to support Jewish life on campus including programs and services for Shabbat, High Holidays, Passover, and other special observances and holidays.
  • Outreach and partner with Jewish students to facilitate contacts and build relationships with individuals and groups and uninvolved students.
  • Meet with the Director of RIT Center for Religious Life on a regular basis to discuss program goals, RIT material support, and assessment of student involvement, ownership, and participation in a united effort to profile and enrich Jewish student life on campus.
  • Planning and implementing social justice and community service programming.
  • Coordinating campus publicity, particularly through social media, including website, Facebook, flyers, etc.
  • Liaison with The Jewish Federation providing reports at the end of each semester with activities, numbers of participants and expenses.
  • Liaison with Hillel International and partner with students to assess Hillel and Hillel House as vehicles to develop and enrich Jewish culture and community; convene meetings as needed with the Jewish Student Life Advisory Board to assess progress in programming efforts to support Jewish life and culture for students.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience relevant to this position
  • Established record of accomplishment in leadership and community building
  • Previous experience supporting Jewish cultural life
  • Strong leadership skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Documented intermediate technological competence using website and social media in addition to computerized office productivity, word processing, database, email, graphics, electronic record-keeping and electronic calendaring software
  • Effective verbal, written, and digital communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

BS
