Position Summary

Under general/limited supervision, this position is responsible for a significant function in the departments of Outreach and Retention, Admissions, Financial Aid, College Relations, and Academic Affairs.  This position acts as a primary expert and provides advice and information to others. Ensures that all System policies/practices surrounding their function are implemented correctly by others. Provides support with prospective student outreach and recruitment, programs for new students, and retention programs for returning students.

Job Functions

  1. Plans and implements New Student Orientations and serves as peer advisors during New Student Orientation, assisting students with iStar functions, ID cards, Library cards, campus tours, and general guidance and support.

  2. Conducts campus tours for all prospective students, new students and campus visitors.

  3. Provides general assistance with all aspects of Student Life programs and events, Academic Affairs events, College Relations events, and Student Services functions; this may include but is not limited to checking students in, assisting them with completing required documents, setting up and staffing events tables, answering questions, acting out skits, etc.

  4. Represents the college at recruitment events at area schools and community events across our service area, as well as on-campus programs, including but not limited to serving on student panels, staffing information tables, answering questions.

  5. Prepares for each program/event by gathering materials or stuffing folders, making reminder phone calls, assisting with check-in and welcoming guests.

  6. Facilitates workshops on various topics through the Office of Student Life. Runs audio/visual equipment as needed.

  7. Staffs welcome centers across campus directing students and visitors to appropriate counters and kiosks with directions, maps and contact information. Responds to office email, answer phone calls, and perform general office functions.

  8. Participates in a calling campaign and other recruitment initiatives to survey and gather information from incoming and current LSC-M Students.

  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Must be enrolled at LSC-Montgomery a minimum of six hours college credit for the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

  • Student must maintain good academic and disciplinary standing.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent public speaking skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diversity of people on a daily basis.

  • Willing to enforce the policies and procedures of Lone Star College, New Student Orientation and the Office of Student Life.

  • Must be mature and capable of working with limited supervision.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.

  • Candidates must successfully complete the Office of Student Life student employee training.

  • Knowledge of MyLonestar.

Salary

 $10.61 per hour, not to exceed 19.5 hours per week.

Work Schedule & Conditions

Work is mostly performed in a climate controlled office setting but will require some work to be done outside including campus tours and set up and breakdown of equipment during orientation and campus events.
