Position Summary

With general policy guidance and direct supervision from the Director of Sport Clubs the Head Coach of Volleyball, makes decisions to successfully achieve department goals and objectives, and is accountable for the development of team policies and goals.  Works to recruit, retain, and train student athletes to promote their success both in and out of the classroom.  Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the sport and display a willingness to incorporate a student developmental philosophy into their coaching style. 

Job Functions

  1. Assists in recruiting and coaching student-athletes under the guidelines of LSC-Tomball and the Lone Star College System.

  2. Carries out duties within the stated philosophy of LSC-Tomball Sport Club program and its educational mission and follows all institutional, conference, and Systems regulations to insure compliance.

  3. Ensures appropriate safety measures are observed and practiced.

  4. Actively participates in practices and competitions, including, but not limited to: game preparation (including developing strategies and  game plans), practice planning (including working individually with, advising, and critiquing student-athletes to develop and improve their skills), tracks player stats, and game scheduling.

  5. Evaluates prospective student-athletes, analyzes and determines their abilities and whether they may succeed athletically and academically at LSC-Tomball.

  6. Submits written documentation and reports as requested.

  7. Additional duties include the monitoring of student-athlete academic performance; conducting, advising, and counseling student-athletes regarding performance and conduct; identifying and addressing student-athlete welfare issues.

  8. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

  9. Available to attend scheduled practices and games.

  10. Occasionally responsible for driving players in a 12 passenger van to games.

  11. Provide basic first aid if necessary.

  12.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Some college classes

Preferred Qualifications

  •   Associate's degree

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must possess enough volleyball knowledge to effectively coach.

  • Must possess positive leadership and communication skills to promote a positive team attitude.

  • Must be able to work effectively with a diverse student population.

  • Must be well organized and flexible to meet time, priority and workload demands.

  • Must have strong oral communication skills with all levels of the college and community.

  • Must be available to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

  • Must be able to travel to games and practices.

  • Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs. and perform frequent standing, sitting, walking, grasping, reaching, and carrying motions.

  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments including extremely hot and cold climate conditions.

  • Must obtain certification in CPR and First Aid within first 6 months of employment

  • Must have a good driving record.


$16.71 an hour

Work Schedule & Conditions

Must be available to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
Must be able to travel to games (Houston area) and practices
