Position Summary

The TRiO Student Support Services Program is responsible for providing academic advice and support to a cohort of students. The Part Time Advisor position serves as a first line of contact that provides direction and referrals to meet the student's needs.  This position meets with students on a regular basis to track their success and progress. The Part Time Advisor is responsible for maintaining documentation and reports on academic progress of students and their success. 

Job Functions

  1. Advises TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) students.

  2. Tracks and provides data on cohort group including success, retention, and completion rates.

  3. Assists students in creating their MEP (My Educational Plan) by end of student's first semester.

  4. Advises students on proper course selection for all credit degree programs, credit and non-credit certificate programs, including TSI regulations, course prerequisites, co-requisites, and recommended course sequence as well as articulation agreements relating to transfer programs associated with University Center and other colleges and universities.

  5. Provides career advising to students.

  6. Works with faculty and counselors to develop and deliver Student Success and HUMD courses.

  7. Meets with students on a regular basis to track their academic progress and success.

  8. Works with faculty and coaches of cohort group to identify needed early interventions.

  9. Will be responsible for providing informational and training sessions related to first time in college students.

  10. Refers students to Counselors when necessary.

  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field

  • At least one year of experience advising students from diverse or disadvantaged populations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

  • Attention to detail in tracking of student success and student educational plans.

  • Ability to recognize potential issues and  provide solutions related to students or the TRiO Student Support Services Program

  •  Thorough knowledge of all programs and services throughout the system, campus, and community.


Hiring Salary is $16.71 per hour  (not to exceed19.5 hrs per week).

Work Schedule & Conditions
