Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park.  Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Position Summary

Provides direction and guidance on programs, certificates and degree plans specific to LSC Online students. Communicates with students on a regular basis to track their success and progress. Reports on progress of students and involves others within the institution to assist with their success.

Job Functions

  1. Advises fully online students via online chat, email or phone. Proactively contacts fully online students to assist with developing academic plans and track their academic progress and success. Confers with students on a regular basis to track their academic progress and success.

  2. Tracks, provides and publishes data on fully online students on items including success, retention, and completion rates.

  3. Assists students in creating their MyPlanner by end of student's first semester.

  4. Advises students on proper course selection for all credit degree programs, credit and non-credit certificate programs, including TSI regulations, course prerequisites, co-requisites, and recommended course sequence as well as articulation agreements relating to transfer programs associated with University Center and other colleges and universities.

  5. Provides career advising to students.

  6. Works with faculty and counselors to develop and deliver online Student Success and EDUC courses.

  7. Works with faculty and coaches of cohort group to identify needed early interventions.

  8. May work with local school districts on advising early college, dual credit, tech prep students and/or potential students.

  9. Provides coaching and advises students on proper course load and sequencing to encourage individual student success.

  10. Refers students to Counselors when necessary.

  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher and at least one year full-time or two years part-time of related work experience with students in an higher educational setting, including students with diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous full-time experience working in Admissions, Advising or Financial Aid at a college.

  • Excellent knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student records and LSC student portal.

  • High degree of technical expertise in student self-service modules and sensitivity to customer issues and inquiries.

  • Customer services background with high volume of email and/or chat (electronic) communications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to attend training for 4-6 weeks from 8am till 5pm.

  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule and work holidays, evenings, and Saturdays as needed.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

  • Attention to detail for tracking of student success and student educational plans.

  • Proficiency with common office software.

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $16.71-(Bachelor's), $20.37-(Master's), $23.39-(Doctorate) (not to exceed 19.5 hours a week)

Work Schedule & Conditions

PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.

Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.

Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.

Position may require a non-standard work schedule which may include holidays, evenings, and Saturdays.
