We are seeking a part-time Student Media and Innovation Coach to work collaboratively with the Faculty Advisor to provide direction, counsel, management and guidance to the editorial and news staff to publish a student oriented newspaper and explore options for future student media platforms. The Coach will provide oversight to assure that college policies are adhered to-both in letter and spirit and will work with staff to develop techniques, standard operating procedures, ethics, obligations and legal constraints facing student and professional journalists. This position will play a key role in planning efforts of student newspaper, training staff members on newsgathering and publishing and assisting with daily operations toward publication of the newspaper and student media ventures. This position will report to the Dean of Student Life & Conduct.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic journalism, news writing and reporting; newspaper layout, printing and reproduction, editing and advertising.
  • Ability to foster positive student learning and development through student publishing/media activities.
  • Knowledge of computers and related software: basic photography; accounting and budget management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Actively recruit students to participate in the publishing of the college newspaper and future student media organizations.
  • Attend and participate all mandated training for Student Organization advisors, including understanding of Campus Security Authority and Responsible Employee roles under the Clery Act and Title IX.
  • Knowledge of the mission of the college and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Current knowledge on latest layout, graphic, and printing technology to keep student media in line with best practice in college newspaper operations, as well as modern and cost efficient.
